Protect the Dolls is a popular phrase originating from 1980s ballroom culture, where ādollsā was an affectionate term for trans women, especially Black and Latina trans women. It was a way of affirming femininity and community in queer spaces.
Protect The Dolls came into mainstream visibility in 2025 when designer Conner Ives put it on a white T-shirt and wore it at London Fashion Week. The shirt spread quickly through celebrity support and social media, turning the phrase into a public symbol of trans solidarity.
